FUTIA VC Tasks NIPR on National Unity and Efficient Public Relations Engagement

The Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Technology (FUTIA), Ikot Abasi, Professor Leo Daniel has tasked the Akwa Ibom State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) to commit to Nigeria’s unity through efficient and effective engagement of the citizens with best public relation tools for national development.

Prof. Leo Daniel made the remarks at the Institute’s 2023 Annual General Meeting (AGM) & Conference/9th Chief O. W. Udoh Memorial Lecture/Dinner & Awards, held on Friday 8th September at Watbridge Hotels and Suites in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State Capital.

The University don who was the Chairman of the occasion stressed that Nigeria and other parts of the world is currently facing diverse economic, political and ecological challenges thereby putting the leaders and public relations officers of Government and her agencies on a spotlight.

“ In the face of these national issues including the “Removal of Fuel Subsidy by the Federal government, the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations and the Public Relations Officers of government are duty bounds to demystify the long and short term benefits of the policy to Nigerians and other concerned stakeholders. The right communication, effective, efficient and timely engagement of best public relations tools is needed to assuage the uncertainties and fear on the part of the Citizenry especially to give hope to our nationhood”, Prof. Daniel emphasized.

The FUTIA VC used the occasion to congratulate the Akwa Ibom State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations led by Nsemeke Udoakpan for the successful hosting of their 2023 Annual General Meeting/Memorial Lecture/Dinner/Awards/Swearing-in Ceremony of the new leadership of the body.

He emphasized that the theme of for event: “Government Reputation Management in the post subsidy Nigeria: Issues and Perspective” is very apt and comes in a time the citizens are anxiously waiting for the leadership and the public relations officers to inspire their hope. He expressed the optimism that the Guest Lecturer for the event; Professor Godwin Okon, a renowned professor of communication from the University of Science & Technology, Port Harcourt, Rivers State will further dissect the topic for proper comprehension.

Professor Daniel who is a a Professor of Aerospace Engineering and a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society (FRAS) used the occasion to appreciate the Akwa Ibom State Chapter of NIPR for according him the privilege to chair the event.

He congratulated the new executive of the Institute led by Manasseh Umoette urging them to consolidate on the ideals of the noble Institute.

The event equally featured panel discussions, cultural display, goodwill messages and swearing-in of the new leadership of the Akwa Ibom State Chapter of NIPR which has Manasseh Umoette – Chairman, Darlington Udobong – Vice Chairman, Anthony Udoh – Secretary General, Edidiong Inyang – Assistant Secretary, Uduak Iwok – Financial Secretary and Emem Okon – Treasurer.
