1. Abubakar Tafawa Balewa (1960 -1963)

Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa served as the first and only Prime Minister of Nigeria. He was a teacher by profession and was one of the first Northern Nigerians to be sent to London University Institute of Education (1945). He was killed in the first of two Nigerian army coups in 1966

2. Chief Nnamdi Azikiwe October 1, 1963 – January 16, 1966)

Chief Nnamdi Azikiwe was the first president of Nigeria and a mentor to Kwame Nkrumah who was the first president of Ghana. Azikiwe earned many certificates and degree from in and outside Nigeria.

3. Major General Johnson Aguiyi Ironsi (January 16, 1966 – July 29, 1966)

Rtd. General Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi was Nigeria’s First Military head of State. He seized power power via a military Coup and rule for only few months.

4. General Yakubu Gowon (August 1, 1966 – July 29, 1975)

Rtd. General Yakubu Gowon is Nigeria’s second military head of state. He assumed power on 1 August 1966 in a coup that deposed General Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi.
