The suspended Catholic priest of the Catholic Church Diocese of Gboko, Benue State, Hyacinth Alia, has defeated Barnabas Gemade, and a former Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Mike Aondoakaa to clinch the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket in Benue State.

The Suspended Catholic Priest polled over 7,000 votes in direct primary to defeat the former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Barnabas Gemade and a former Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Mike Aondoakaa

The Priest who was suspended by the Church because of his interest to run for an elective political post in the 2023 general election noted that he joined the race to rescue Benue people from what he called “shackles of maladministration.”

According to him, his decision to contest for the governorship of Benue State was to answer to the overwhelming call of Benue People.

“From the day I took the decision to answer the overwhelming calls of my people to contest the governorship of Benue with the aim to rescue our people from the shackles of maladministration, I was fully aware of the sacrifice I was going to make.” He noted
